Church of S. Maria Annunziata
The church, which gives its name to the surrounding neighborhood, was built in the late sixteenth century (the date 1593 is engraved on the bell) close to the city walls.
Further interventions date back to the XVII century (stoup in 1651 and lavabo in 1652) and XVIII century (façade with northern portal in 1754). In the same half of the XVIII century, the new altarpiece was made by an unknown painter, confirming the lively activity of the confraternity that ran it.
After the opening of the new larger portal that gives on the road, which is named after the church, the old entrance aligned with the main altar was occluded, and the space of the original parvis was enclosed in a small courtyard (1793). In the XIX century, the altar was reconstructed.
In 2001, after a significant restoration of the masonry and the inside, the church was reopened and enriched with contemporary works by Enzo Salanitro (Madonna col Bambino, oil painting) and Sebastiano Leta (Annunciazione, a raku ceramic placed in the niche above the portal, instead of the lost original marble group.
